After such a long winter and now that the warm weather is back, you probably want to get off the couch and get moving again. One of the biggest reasons many people don’t do just that is a lack of time. You may have to get creative and multi-task in order to get things in gear. To help you do this, here are 6 Creative Ways to Exercise at Home

6 Creative Ways to Exercise at Home

Exercise between commercial breaks. I like to get on my stationary bike and workout when a commercial comes on. I either make my workout more intense when a commercial break comes on or I only workout when a commercial is on. You could simply do sit ups if you want! Another way to use your TV time as fitness time is to use different types of shows for different kinds or exercise. For example, comedies can be for treadmills, dramas for free weights etc.

Take the long way. Do you have to walk to get your mail or newspaper? Use this as an excuse to get outside and take a fast paced walk for 10–15 minutes. Get your partner to come with you or walk your furry friend! Whatever it takes to get out there.

Double time it in the kitchen. Cooking includes a lot of waiting, even for short periods of time. I do a lot of meal prep and batch cooking and although my Instant Pot has made my wait times shorter, I still have 10–20 minutes to wait for things most of the time. I use these short time periods to get in some yoga, push ups, free weights, or whatever I can.

Turn cleaning time into dance time. Not only will you make cleaning a more enjoyable experience, but you will get a good workout in as well! Pick a favorite upbeat Pandora station and dance it out while you mop, dust, do the dishes or vacuum! I always work up a sweat this way. Cleaning gets done more effectively as well because I tend to get in ‘the zone’ and start deep cleaning without even thinking about it.

Use your couch as a piece of gym equipment. There are so many exercises you can do using a chair so why not use your couch as a piece of equipment? Do crunches sitting in it, use it to do pushups against, and do some seated yoga.

Set up circuit training in your living room. If you have older children, they will enjoy this one! You could get yourself a kid workout buddy and while commercials are on, see how many ‘stations’ you can go to during the breaks. Make them simple things like jumping jacks, sit-ups, and hand weights and do each one for as long as a commercial is on. When the commercial switches, switch stations. When your show comes back on, rest.
